A one minute sterilization box utilizing UVC light to sterilize medical equipment (N95 masks, face shields, stethoscopes, etc) to help the short supply of PPE products for our medical professionals, elderly care staff and front line businesses.

Simple to operate and capable of sterilizing a single N95 mask in 60 seconds approximately 50 times before the elastic bands loose their stretch (from use, the UVC light or both), this portable box is a mini factory that turns used masks into sterile ones.  The box can sterilize up to 6 masks at a time or 1 face shield.

Bulb life expectancy is 8000 hours or 480,000 sterilization cycles or 2,880,000 sterilized masks.  You can always buy replacement bulbs, too, for even more sterilizing.

Powered by a standard plug.

UV sterilization has been around for over 100 years.  You may have seen it in contact lens cleaning, drinking water sterilization or phone sterilization.  Over 6,000 water treatment plants in Europe and America currently use UVC for purifying their water.  Many hospitals have a UVC room or cabinet for sterilization.

Comes with a sheet of UVC test strips to assess bulb strength and condition

Research:

In 2015, the US government did a study specifically on reusing N95 masks via this method.  If you'd like to look into this research, here's a link

Here’s a link to the bulb being used and it’s properties.

Wikipedia has a reasonable page explaining the science in layman's terms.

Specifications:

Exterior Dimensions: 20.5" x 16" x 8"

Interior Dimensions: 16.5" x 12.5 x 3.5"

Bulb: 36 Watt 4 pin clear Germicidal 16"

J/cm2: ~500,000μW/cm2 or 0.5J/cm2 over 1 minute

Bulb operates at 253 nm or middle ultraviolet according to the IES.

Warnings:

1) The light used for sterilization can blind you.  I have installed a safety inside each box to ensure that the light will only operate when the box is closed, but this is not something to leave around curious children who cannot read and/or respect warning labels.

2) Some users report smelling a slight burnt odor when sterilizing heavily used masks.  This is due to the sterilization process and, in my opinion, a reasonable trade off considering the effects of Covid-19 Corona Virus.

3) I am not an FDA approved company, but the science and products at work here are and are well documented.

Big thanks to Brian Crabtree who did the heavy lifting behind this project.
