Be Your Dreams June 24 2014

Be Your Dreams Three years ago I was working 100 hours a week, hating my job and sliding deeper and deeper into $30,000 of credit card debt despite being amazingly frugal. This brought an ever present exasperation and deep depression.  I was building Ritz Carlton's and the nicest homes in Malibu (if not the world) yet I was a financial disaster, bitter and unhappy man. I didn't know it at...

PopSugar Plug! June 10 2014

by Angela Elias     When blogger-stylist Erin Hiemstra of Apartment 34 decorated a den/office for this Sunset Magazine house tour, she stole the spotlight with a California state marquee light that she found at a local flea market. Made of reclaimed old-growth redwood and automobile-grade aluminum, the marquee features 13 lightbulbs representing the state's major cities.   See the full article here

Daily Candy's Wedding Guide Pick September 24 2013

Daily Candy put together a brief wedding guide with me on top as their pick of where to rent (or buy) your oh so fab lights.  In their words: "This ain't no DIY party." Sugary sweet for sure; I'm right at home as this year's Daily Candy pick.

Touch it Before You Buy It August 25 2013

Seeing is believing.  I work with the best photographers in the world to capture how my lights actually look, but there is still no substitute for being front of one.  To experience their huge scale or the soft glows that only reclaimed wood can cast, you have a few options: 1) Most people that rent the lights just for an event end up buying them.  Find out why by renting...

San Francisco Chronicle August 11 2013

California Marquees Put Artist On Map Sophia Markoulakis   Scott Coppersmith's California state marquee was the focal point in Erin Hiemstra's installation at Sunset. As part of Sunset magazine's annual Celebration Weekend earlier this month, the Reimagining the Sunset Home exhibit enlisted five under-35 designers to reinterpret vintage photo spreads from the 1940s through 1980s. San Francisco blogger-stylist Erin Hiemstra of the lifestyle site Apartment 34 was asked to...

Sunset Magazine Celebration Weekend August 11 2013

Sunset Magazine holds a fun weekend party where they basically make their magazine come to life.  Garden stuff, food galore, and 5 designers get rooms to build out.  My California Map Marquee was chosen as a feature of one of the rooms and then Sunset Editor Joanna Linberg tweeted after the show: "Hard to pick a favorite detail from @SunsetMag's Reimagined Home Tour, but this is a top contender. pic.twitter.com/A7A5LP9kkP"...

Ventana Cover and Photoshoot August 11 2013

The Ventana doesn't have the biggest reach but it did introduce me to my new favorite photographer Mariana Schulze.  I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising by Design Love Fest August 11 2013

Bri of Design Love Fest stopped by with Heather Gildroy to shoot some lights for the latest magazine for FIDM.  Love Heather's work.    The cover:

InStyle Magazine August 11 2013

Celebrities clientele has been the norm from the beginning and it's always fun to see where they end up.  My 20th customer was So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley.  I didn't think much of it at the time until I caught sight of the 2012 August issue of InStyle Magazine which ran a feature on Cat in her house.          I love how she increased the functionality...

Brent Bolthouse AMOR, LA Times August 11 2013

The first month I went full time with this dream I was contracted to outfit a 161 room hotel and build the centerpiece for Brent Bolthouse's latest project; The Bungalow at the Miramar Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica.  A conservative estimate is that 1 million people see the Bungalow installation either in person or via Instagram or Facebook as it's the choice and frequently used backdrop for photos. From the...

My Sixth Customer Was a Supermodel August 11 2013

I started this business with $18, a giant stack of rejected drawings, and 6 I liked.  Through several lucky turns of fate I found markets and customers I'll be forever grateful for.       At my second market, I sold my sixth and seventh piece to a beautiful woman and her sister's boyfriend.  She was with her family and was as humble and sweet as she was stunning so it...
